The Sutlej Club
The Sutlej Club, Ludhiana was started as an officers club during the British regime with the deputy commissioner as its president as in ex-officio capacity. Our club in Ludhiana hardly needs any introduction in view of its 80 years old established credentials of having elite members from all upper strata of society as also by its culture, norms of discipline and code of conduct being observed by its members. The Sutlej Club, Ludhiana has enviable credentials in Northern India. The club with its magnificent building in Rakh Bagh, Civil Lines is spread over a spacious five acre beautiful site having lush green lawns. It has a membership of little over 3300 persons who come from all walks of life i.e. officer, Professionals, Doctors, Educationists and Businessmen etc. It has a strong financial base and experienced staff. The club was established in its old building, Club Road, Civil Lines, Ludhiana later the land was given to Guru Nanak Stadium and in lieu of that land the district administration given a five acre land in which the club management has built a new building.
The club has its own Constitution in which rules and regulations have been made for the club members and its members strictly adheres its norms.
The membership of the club open to both ladies and gentlemen above the age of 25 years having minimum educational qualification of Graduate or having passed three years full time course in any subject from the recognized University after Higher Secondary/Plus two level.

After submitting the application form, the applicant’s name will be registered after depositing the requisite registration fee as per rule. After registration, the applicant can utilize the club sports facilities except on Saturdays and Sundays. During this period, the applicant should visit the club at least 10 times for utilizing the existing sports facilities to be eligible for consideration for temporary membership.
After three months period, the applicant becomes eligible to apply for temporary membership. The application for temporary membership shall be presented to the screening committee appointed by the President.
The Screening Committee shall consist of General Secretary and two members from Class I Officer of the State Govt. or Central Govt. The Screening committee looks into the various aspects of the members like etiquettes, manners and proficiency in sports. The applicants should have reasonable proficiency in at least one of the sports. The Screening Committee will then forward the application to the President with comments about admissibility of the member. The President will have the power to admit/refuse any applicant of any category without assigning any reason.
After being temporary member for 6 month months, the member is eligible to apply for permanent membership.
The Dy. Commissioner of Ludhiana shall always be the President in his Ex-Official Capacity. In addition there shall be an Executive Committee, which will consist of the following elected office bearers:
a) Vice President b) General Secretary, c) Joint Secretary, d) Sports Secretary, e) Finance Secretary, f) Bar Secretary, g) Mess Secretary, h) Cultural Secretary, I) Eight other members Executive Committee members of whom three shall be elected (at least one of them will be lady member) and other five nominated by the President from class I Gazetted Officer of the State.
b) The day to day administration will be in the hands of the General Secretary. He shall incur all necessary expenses in respect there of with the general approval of the Executive Committee.
c) All the accounts have been audited by the Statutory Auditors and Balance Sheet has been passed by the General House Every year. One Internal Auditor has been appointed for auditing the day today expenditure.
d) General Body meeting has been called every year in the month of February
The club is affiliated with 46 prominent and reputed clubs like- Bombay Presidency Radio Club Mumbai, Delhi Cricket Association, Roshanara Club, Chlemsford Club, New Delhi, Century club Bangalore, Yashwant Club Indore, Maharaja Bagh Club Nagpur and other reputed clubs all over the country and 5 clubs have also been affiliated with abroad London, Dubai, Behrain, Malaysia, Shanghai. The affiliated club members can avail the club facilities four times in a month.
All units of the club have been made full air conditioned and equipped with modern gadgets like Dining Hall. Two Banquet Hall, Coffee Shop, Cards Room, Bridge Room, a fully decorated family lounge, Bar Room, Sports- Squash, Badminton Hall, Health Club with Sauna bath, Steam bath. Jacuzzi, Chilled water plant, Massage Room and a separate exercise wing with modern exercise equipment’s. Tennis Courts, Billiard Room, Table Tennis Room , All weather Swimming Pool etc.
The club has been celebrating usual function like- Lohri, Valentine Day, Friendship Day, Baisakhi,Summer Camp, Teej, Karva Chaudth, Diwali, Children’s Day, Christmas Day, and New Year Eve every year etc.
